Why switch from sealed beams? – A brief history
Sealed beam headlights were introduced in the 1930s as a standardized solution. However, they have several drawbacks: if the filament fails, the whole unit must be replaced. Plus, DOT regulations allow for broad, unfocused light patterns that often dazzle oncoming drivers.
ECE-compliant H4 headlamps offer:
- Better road illumination
- Less glare
- Increased safety during night driving
Headlight Aiming (ECE Style):
ECE-approved headlamps are aimed optically, not via alignment lugs.Adjustment is easy to do at home:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, approx. 25 ft (7.5 m) from a wall.
- Turn on low beam.
- Mark the beam cutoff line on the wall.
- Adjust the beam using the screws (horizontal and vertical) to align with markings (3" drop over 25 ft).
