Motorcycle Conversion to Chopper or Bobber

Motorcycle Conversion to Chopper or Bobber: The Solo Seat

When converting a motorcycle into a chopper or bobber, the main focus is often on individual design and aesthetics. A common modification is installing a solo seat to give the motorcycle its distinctive look. It is important to note that the passenger seat (pillion seat) must be formally removed from the registration documents if it will no longer be used.

  1. Solo seat and removal of the passenger seat

  • When the original passenger seat is removed and the motorcycle is converted to a solo seat, carrying a passenger is no longer possible.

  • In this case, the passenger seat must officially be removed from the vehicle registration documents (Vehicle Registration Certificate Part I). This ensures that the motorcycle is only registered as a single-seater.

  1. Inspection by an authorized testing center

  • The removal of the passenger seat must be checked and confirmed by an authorized testing center such as TÜV, DEKRA, or a similar institution.

  • Inspectors will check that the conversion was carried out professionally and that no safety-related aspects have been compromised. They will also examine whether the installation of the solo seat complies with legal requirements.

  • After successful inspection, the modification is entered in the vehicle's registration papers, and the change from "two-seater" to "single-seater" is officially documented.
