How to Change Your Motorcycle Oil – Step-by-Step
Regular oil changes protect your engine and extend the life of your bike. Here's how:
Tools & Materials:
- Motor oil (correct specification)
- New oil filter (and seal ring if needed)
- Drain pan for used oil
- Funnel & oil filter wrench
- Optional: Torque wrench
- Gloves & cleaning cloth
Step-by-Step:
- Warm up the engine for about 5 minutes so the oil flows easier.
- Stabilize the bike using a center stand or paddock stand.
- Remove the drain plug and let old oil drain completely.
- Use a wrench to remove the old oil filter. Clean the mounting area.
- Lightly oil the new filter’s seal and install it as per manual.
- Insert the drain plug with a new gasket and tighten properly.
- Refill with fresh oil (check your manual for the right amount).
- Start the engine for 1–2 minutes, check for leaks.
- Let the engine sit, then check and top off the oil level.
- Dispose of the old oil at a proper recycling center.
